JACKSON QUESTEL'S VIRTUAL GALLERY
".... His frames contain real objects that are saved from the garbage can ... they get a second life ..."

"...My imagination pushes me further to give different vocations to objects, different uses and also other functions......."

I was born in 1963 in Saint-Barthélemy. My childhood was determined by a tropical nonchalance which suited me perfectly. Accuracy and rules set by school did not do much to me, so I didn’t grant any passion to my studies. However, as it became necessary to put some activities into my life, it was my curiosity that finally made me leave my island ........

From 1988 to 1995, seasonal jobs enabled me to travel more or less anywhere. I started to discover photography, in particular in Madagascar where fixing strong and moving pictures became an essential part of my work.

From 1995 to 1998, a boat and a sail showed me the world through a different perspective, making me aware of many other harbours and other cultures.

In 1998, when I returned to my island, I wanted to give a different dimension to the pictures I had stored with a thousand of heteroclite objects, travel souvenirs or walks.

My first exposure, in 1998, gathered objets that were intented for forgetfulness or the garbage can. They essentially started to live a second life and created the frameworks for my pictures.

In 1999, the pictures disappeared. The assemblages of the objects itself became a seperated style of work, in which a lot of contrast and a humorous touch presented my point of view. My imagination pushed me further to give different vocations to objects, different uses and other functions.

The same year, I was selected to participate in the ’Exposition de la Ville de Paris’, where I  obtained the sixth price.

In 2000 and 2001, the woman becomes subject of my predilection. She enters my compositions in which the topicality, represented by the symbolic of the objects, is always present.

My work, my sculpture and my paintwork, is represented in France, the USA and The Netherlands, even if some tables remain in deprived collections in Saint-Barthélemy.

2002, 2004 stage Holland.

2008 I'm living in St-Barth now, and after 4 years off break,Two pieces are now online and I will keep working.
